Charlie Nicholas questions Tottenham's recent team selections

White Hart Lane 6

Tottenham Hotspur have named strong line-ups in both the Europa League and the FA Cup recently.

Charlie Nicholas has told Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, which was broadcast on February 20, that Tottenham Hotspur’s Mauricio Pochettino may have been too bold with his team selections of late.

Tottenham’s win over Manchester City two weekends’ ago has launched them into the thick of a title fight in the Premier League.

However, Spurs have still named strong line-ups in both the Europa League and the FA Cup in the past week, and Nicholas says that the Argentine boss is taking a big risk.

“I was shocked,” Nicholas said. “I can understand from his point of view [why he picked a strong team], but in the position that Spurs are in now - and after the gigantic win at Manchester City - I thought he would have changed a couple.

“He is playing a risky game so far, but I think Spurs have only won two out of six after a European night so far.

“For me the question is, is he too bold?”

Tottenham’s strong selection against Fiorentina paid off, as they picked up an encouraging result in Italy.

Spurs drew 1-1 with their Serie A opponents, and are now in a commanding position for when Fiorentina visit White Hart Lane for the second leg on Thursday evening.

The Lilywhites were knocked out of the FA Cup on Sunday though, as Crystal Palace beat them 1-0.

The Eagles defended resolutely throughout the tie and ended Spurs’ hopes of claiming an unlikely treble.

Tottenham’s next Premier League match comes against Swansea City at the weekend.
