Etherington reacts on Twitter to West Ham victory; talks FA Cup chances

West Ham United defeated Blackburn Rovers 5-1 this weekend.

Former winger Matthew Etherington has taken to social networking site Twitter in order to praise West Ham United following their 5-1 win over Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

Goals from Victor Moses, Dimitri Payet [2] and Emmanuel Emenike [2] rounded off a superb win for the Hammers following Ben Marshall’s opener for Blackburn.

Commenting on Twitter after the game, former player Etherington was impressed with Slaven Bilic’s side as they reached the FA Cup quarter-finals in front of 7,000 travelling supporters in considerable style.

With West Ham seemingly taking the FA Cup more seriously than the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur [who lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace], they could be real contenders.

Etherington added on Breathe Sport: “Without doubt they can go all the way. Players like Lanzini, Sakho coming back from injury and in Payet they have one of the best players in the Premier League.”

It is certainly an exciting time to be a Hammers supporter at present, what with the team flying high in the Premier League and reaching the last eight of the FA Cup with aplomb.

The move to the Olympic Stadium next season will only enhance their reputation as a club with massive potential, and a strong finish to this season could prompt an interesting summer on the transfer front.

West Ham resume action against Premier League strugglers Sunderland at home next weekend.
