Tottenham round-up: Early team news, Carroll out injured and Wimmer excited to face Adebayor

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur welcome Crystal Palace to White Hart Lane this afternoon for their FA Cup fifth round clash.

Tottenham are still in three competitions this season and while a treble is highly unlikely at this stage it is not beyond the realms of possibility when you consider the players at manager Mauricio Pochettino’s disposal.

In early team news, the BBC reports that first-choice Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will be replaced by back-up stopper Michel Vorm after the Frenchman suffered a shoulder injury last weekend.

Midfielder Tom Carroll is also out after suffering a cut on his Achilles that will take around 10 days to repair.

Tottenham are also without summer signing Clinton N’Jie and centre-back Jan Vertonghen, but Kevin Wimmer will continue to deputise for the big Belgian.

Wimmer had to wait patiently for his chance at White Hart Lane, but he is now seizing his opportunity and he has been speaking to the Mirror about the prospect of coming up against Palace striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

The Togo international recently moved to Selhurst Park as a free agent and Wimmer said, “Some of the guys know him and we will focus on the game and work together to try to stop him as a unit.

“It is good for a defender like me to fight against players like this.”
