Leeds fans have grown increasingly tired of the 24-year-old.
Steve Evans does things his way, everybody gets that.
But there comes a point where stubbornness can no longer prevail. If someone values pride above their team's actual performance, there's clear something wrong.
Patience with the 24-year-old had run thin weeks ago. So why has Evans persisted with him? It looks as though it's nothing other than pride - the Scot trying to say 'my way or the highway' without actually looking at form or any footballing logic.
Against Watford, Evans continually praised Leeds and discussed how well his side had coped against Premier League opposition.
But, if that's the case, Wootton's role in scoring the winner for the wrong team should be scrutinised even further.
Lewie Coyle deserves another chance at right-back and Wootton needs to be dropped.
If Evans persists with him - just to prove he can - he risks the full wrath of Leeds supporters. Right now, it's a no-brainer.
