Report: Newcastle to let six players go this summer... experiment over?

Newcastle could reportedly offload six players this summer, potentially marking the end of an era.

Newcastle United could let six players go this summer, according to the Daily Star.

And the mass exodus could signal the end of Newcastle's French experiment.

Indeed, the Magpies have recently targeted a number of players from Ligue 1 but signed just one in January, compared to two from the Premier League and one on loan from Serie A.

The Star report that Florian Thauvin, Remy Cabella, Emmanuel Riviere, Gabriel Obertan, Yoan Gouffran and Sylvain Marveaux will all be offloaded over the summer.

Should the six members of Newcastle's contingent be moved on, it could mark the de facto end of the Tyneside club's close association with the Ligue 1 market.

Giving up on so many of their French imports will hardly encourage the club to continue bringing players in from the country, although the odd exception could be made - such as Henri Saivet this January.

The Newcastle first team are currently at a warm-weather training camp in La Manga.
