Nottingham Forest midfielder Gary Gardner is on loan from Aston Villa.

Nottingham Forest midfielder Gary Gardner has suggested that Everton’s Ross Barkley needs to start at Euro 2016.

Gardner, who played with Barkley at England youth level, was watching Everton’s FA Cup match against Bournemouth yesterday, when he decided to tweet his opinion on the attacking midfielder.

The Aston Villa loanee suggested that Roy Hodgson should be putting Barkley in his first choice line-up, when the Three Lions travel to France in the summer.

Barkley scored Everton’s first goal in their 2-0 win over Bournemouth, as they booked their place in the quarter finals of the FA Cup.

The 22-year-old took aim from range, and via a deflection the ball looped over Bournemouth stopper Artur Boruc.

Barkley’s strike was his 12th in all competitions this campaign, and he has also provided eight assists.

The youngster looks a near certainty to be in Roy Hodgson’s squad for Euro 2016, but will be competing with the likes of Dele Alli, Jordan Henderson and James Milner for a starting place in England’s team.
