Dean Ashton has spoken very highly of West Ham United's current squad.

Dean Ashton has told Sky Sports programme Goals on Sunday, which was broadcast on 21 February, that West Ham United have the potential to finish fifth in the Premier League this season and win the FA Cup.

The Hammers are currently in competition with Manchester United and Southampton for a spot in the Europa League.

As things stand West Ham are in seventh place, but they are hot on the heels of their nearest rivals and Ashton believes that they have the ability to move up the table in the coming weeks.

The former West Ham front man also feels that Slaven Bilic’s side can continue to progress in the FA Cup, after they knocked out Blackburn Rovers earlier today.

"I think fifth spot is up for grabs, and the FA Cup will be in their minds - I think they can win it," Ashton said. "It’s the best squad they’ve had for years."

Bilic has already stated that winning the FA Cup would mean more to him than claiming a top four place, and West Ham’s performance this afternoon showed just how seriously they are taking the cup competition.

Despite playing against lower league opposition the Hammers showed no signs of complacency as they put in a ruthless performance to beat Paul Lambert’s side.

Emmanuel Emenike and Dimitri Payet both scored twice, while Victor Moses netted once on what was a great day for Hammers fans.
