The Belgian teenager has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
The report claims Spurs were considering a £15million bid for the 18-year-old but that they may have to go as high as £24million if they are to seal a deal ahead of Spanish side Atletico Madrid.
Whether the young Belgian is worth quite so much is open to debate, but there is little doubt he would be a superb addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s blossoming squad.
When the transfer of a so-called ‘wonder-kid’ comes off it has the potential to define a club for the next decade; just ask Tottenham fans how much they believe Dele Alli is now worth. So if Tielemans ultimately reaches his full potential it could be a double-whammy for Spurs and their supporters.
With a contract until 2020 and 116 appearances for Anderlecht already under his belt, it is no surprise Tielemans is priced so highly. But the real reason Tottenham should snap him up is his remarkable versatility.
After all, with Alli, Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele, Josh Onomah and the rest all vying for first-team spots, Tottenham fans could argue that the young Belgian would simply be unnecessary.
However, Tielemans can play equally as effectively as a holding midfielder, a central midfielder or in more of an attacking role. He can also operate on either flank, with the left side being the more natural of the two.
So in essence Tottenham would be getting a solution to a whole host of potential problems, a player who could cover for absence in many different positions but one who could ultimately form a simply sensational partnership with Alli.
