Former Celtic and Aston Villa striker Alan McInally admitted on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ last Saturday afternoon (February 13, broadcast from 12pm) that he thought that Aleksandar Mitrovic is older than he actually is.
McInally admitted that he did not realise that the Newcastle United striker is only 21 years of age.
“I didn’t realise he was 21,” said the former Scotland international about Mitrovic. “I honestly thought he was 25, 26.”
“I genuinely, genuinely thought he was a little bit older, and because of that, I thought he should have done better,” added McInally.
Mitrovic joined Newcastle from Belgian giants Anderlecht in the summer of 2015 and has a contract until June 2020.
The 21-year-old has a pass accuracy of 71% and a shot accuracy of 49%, and has won 48 headers, 11 dribbles and eight tackles.
Newcastle are third from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with just 24 points from 26 matches. Steve McClaren’s side are level on points with 17th-placed Norwich City.
The Magpies will return to action on March 2 when they take on Stoke City away from home at the Britannia Stadium in the Premier League.
