Paul Merson believes Everton are underachieving compared to high fliers Tottenham.
Everton are down in 11th position compared to Tottenham's second place, with 16 points separating the two teams.
Merson said: "Is Tottenham's team really better than Everton's? If you put the two together you'd get half and half. May be just less Everton. They shouldn't be where they are."
Spurs now have a real shout of winning the league, two points off the top, but Merson warned: "They'll never come any closer than this for a long time."
Comparing the two squads the major difference is in defence, with Hugo Lloris vastly superior to Tim Howard this season.
Everton's backline has suffered with injuries, while John Stones has disappointed when fit, compared to Tottenham's excellent rearguard marshalled by summer signing Toby Alderweireld.
In attack it is hard to choose between Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane, as with Ross Barkley and Dele Alli, with Spurs only outscoring Everton by one goal. Defensively there is a wide gap, with Spurs having the meanest backline in the league conceding just 20 goals, while Everton have shipped 35.
