Former Newcastle United midfielder Jermaine Jenas said on the UEFA Europa League Highlights show on BT Sport Europe on Thursday night (February 18) that Tottenham Hotspur youngster Dele Alli needs to be careful from now on.
The former Tottenham star made his comments following the Europa League round-of-32 tie between Fiorentina and Spurs in Florence on Thursday evening.
Alli was booked on the half-hour mark at the Stadio Artemio Franchi for kicking Nenad Tomovic while the defender was on the ground.
Jenas was not impressed with the 19-year-old midfielder’s conduct, and has warned that the teenager could get into trouble with officials if he continues to make such fouls.
“The more and more he keeps doing it, the more the refs are going to be looking out for him,” said the former Nottingham Forest midfielder on the UEFA Europa League Highlights show on BT Sport Europe on Thursday night (February 18) when asked if Alli is going to get into trouble sooner or later.
“He kind of thinks that he is being cute about it, the way he is going on about it, but yeah he will come unstuck with it, something he needs to completely eradicate from his game, especially in Europe and at international level those referees are pretty sharp and they are not scared to get the red card out.”
Over the course of the 90 minutes against Fiorentina, Alli took one shot, had a pass accuracy of 84%, created two chances, attempted 10 dribbles, and made two blocks.
Tottenham drew the first leg 1-1 and are now in a good position to progress to the last 16 of the Europa League.
