The out-of-form Everton defender 'won't' do it - but is capable of playing further forward, according to the pundit.
Indeed, the former Premier League manager doesn't believe the 21-year-old will complete such a switch - but feels he is more than capable of pulling it off.
And Redknapp is impressed with just how confident the Everton man is in possession.
Redknapp told JOE: "John Stones, he's got that much ability and could go and play in midfield if he wanted to but he won't. He could step forward because he's so comfortable on the ball."
Redknapp certainly wouldn't be the first to suggest a move to midfield for Stones. Like David Luiz, the Toffees defender is good on the ball and could do better further forward.
Unfortunately, Stones has also been very similar to Luiz in other aspects this season.
Stones' form has been poor and the praise has clearly gone to his head. He may return for Everton this weekend and Roberto Martinez is backing him to enjoy a strong end to the season.
But, then again, Martinez thinks Tim Howard has been brilliant this term so...
