The former Tottenham boss has been discussing the holding midfielder.
Indeed, the 22-year-old has absolutely thrived for Tottenham as a holding midfielder this season.
But Redknapp sees Dier eventually reverting to his original position at centre-back.
Redknapp told JOE: "He's doing a great job in there for Tottenham and it suits the way they play and their setup but I think eventually he will be a great centre-half."
There's nothing wrong with Redknapp's suggestion. In fact, it makes a refreshing change from the usual 'I almost signed that player when I was a manager' or 'oh, Dimitri Payet is such a good player' type analysis from the former Spurs boss.
But it is a surprise to hear such a prediction considering just how good Dier has been in holding midfield.
The good news for Tottenham is that the 22-year-old looks to have international-level potential whatever position he ends up in.
Dier's versatility has been a huge asset ever since his arrival at White Hart Lane - and Mauricio Pochettino has certainly made the most of it.
