Tottenham secured a 1-1 draw away at Fiorentina on Thursday.
Tottenham legend Graham Roberts has taken to his personal Twitter account to make a confident prediction for Spurs’ Europa League campaign, having watched the side draw 1-1 with Fiorentina in Florence.
Fantastic trip to Florence we can win the 2nd leg and get into last sixteen.— Graham Roberts (@GrahamRoberts4) February 19, 2016
Roberts, who won the UEFA Cup with Spurs in 1984, is confident that Mauricio Pochettino’s side will secure victory in the second leg, confirming their passage through to the next round of the tournament.
Whilst a confident claim, it is certainly not too bold, considering Spurs managed a 1-1 draw in Florence - scoring an important away goal.
They have the advantage in the second leg, and whilst Fiorentina are a strong, it would be hard to imagine Spurs collapsing in their current form in a home game.
Pochettino has made a strong, consistent side, and even though players were rested on Thursday, Spurs still had enough quality about them to secure a draw.
There were doubts about whether Pochettino would take the Europa League seriously this term, as they are fighting for the Premier League title, but the head coach’s team selection certainly made it look like he was.
If Spurs go out to win in the return leg at White Hart Lane, they should easily secure passage to the next round, and they will move one step closer to winning Europe’s secondary competition.
