Chelsea interim boss Guus Hiddink has suggested in his pre-match press conference, reported by the club's official website, that new signing Matt Miazga could make his debut against Manchester City.
Miazga made a surprise switch to Stamford Bridge from New York Red Bulls during the January transfer window, but he was initially expected to be eased into action.
However, a long-term injury to Kurt Zouma and a hamstring problem sustained by John Terry has resulted in the United States international moving closer to the first-team squad, and he was included on the bench for the Champions League fixture with Paris Saint-Germain in midweek.
Miazga never made it onto the pitch at the Parc des Princes, but while stopping short of saying he will feature on Sunday afternoon, Hiddink has not ruled out the possibility of the 20-year-old making his bow.
Hiddink said: "Miazga is close. We are doing some tests but he should be fit. What will the weekend bring? It’s too early to say."
During his time in Major League Soccer, Miazga made 42 league and cup appearances for the Red Bulls, scoring one goal.
