Nordtveit, 25, may be familiar to some Premier League fans, having been on the books with Arsenal as a youngster, before leaving for Gladbach in 2010.
The Norwegian international left Arsenal in search of first-team football, and that's certainly what he's got in Germany, having racked up over 150 appearances for Monchengladbach, producing some superb performances for the Bundesliga side.
Now though, Gladbach risk losing Nordtveit - who can play in defensive midfield or at centre back - as his contract expires this summer, meaning he can sign for any club on a Bosman free transfer.
That has prompted interest from Premier League clubs looking to offer him a return to English football, and West Brom appear to have joined the race.
The Mirror report that West Brom have joined big-name Premier League rivals Liverpool, Southampton and West Ham United in the race to sign Nordtveit, with manager Tony Pulis contemplating a bargain move this summer.
With Sandro only on loan from Queens Park Rangers, Pulis may see Nordtveit as a long-term option in holding midfield, whilst his versatility to play in defence would no doubt be appealing to the Baggies manager.
