Paul Merson says Tottenham Hotspur title win is impossible if they battle on all three fronts

The former Arsenal man clearly feels Spurs must prioritise the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur are still on the hunt for trophies on three fronts this season.

Tonight they face Fiorentina in the Europa League as they look to battle to a European trophy. The club are also in FA Cup action at the weekend and last Sunday took a giant step toward potentially winning the Premier League title with a win against Manchester City at The Etihad.

One man who thinks Spurs can genuinely win the league this season is former Arsenal man Paul Merson.

Speaking on Sky Sports News today (18/02/2016) he made it clear his belief that Spurs are now the favourites, but also shared his thoughts on what would make a title tilt impossible:

"I think Monday morning the coaching staff, after that big win at The Etihad, they would have had to sit around that table and really made their mind up what they're going to do.

"Are they going to go for the Premier League, which is the biggest thing you can win in my opinion, or they are going to try and play for everything.

"If they play for everything it is almost nailed on impossible. If they (focus solely on the Premier League) I think they are favourites and will (win the Premier League). They've been outstanding.

"If they go for all of them it's impossible. It would be a bigger shock for them to win the Europa (League) and the Premier League as it would for Leicester to win the Premier League."

Merson clearly believes that Spurs do not have what it takes to win all three competitions. It also seems as though he is suggesting that going all out for all three could end in them ending the season without a trophy altogether.

Spurs are well poised in the league and many a fan would not swap a title triumph for anything else this season.

But it remains to be seen just how Mauricio Pochettino treats the other two competitions in the latter part of an incredible season.
