Martin Keown says he would be fascinated if Newcastle signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to leave PSG this summer.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Martin Keown has admitted he would love to see Newcastle sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the summer, even if such a move is extremely unlikely.

Keown said: “Of course Zlatan’s wages and profile means he’d most likely head to one of the big clubs, but I’d be fascinated if he went somewhere like Newcastle. It’s unlikely, I know, but imagine him being a new No 9 up there! His wages might be extortionate but there will be a lot of money swirling around in the Premier League next season.”

Swedish legend Ibrahimovic is out of contract at the end of this season, and he has made it clear that he intends to leave PSG.

A move to MLS has been touted, but it is expected that his first stop will be in the Premier League, spending a short spell in England.

One of the big clubs are sure to be interested in the 34-year-old, and they can offer the kind of money that Ibrahimovic will demand, but Keown has admitted that he would love to see the striker move to someone like Newcastle.

They are a club who need a spark, and Ibrahimovic is the kind of player who can revitalise an entire club, dragging the entire side forward.

The chances of Newcastle signing Ibrahimovic are roughly 0%, but it would be fantastic entertainment to see the legend move to one of the lesser clubs in England, rather than one of the sides guaranteed success.
