The legendary Liverpool defender believes he could only ever coach at Liverpool.
Liverpool are currently trying to turn things around at Anfield with new manager Jurgen Klopp trying to instill his philosophy at the club.
Now a Liverpool legend has joked about the potential to join up with Klopp at Anfield.
“I’ve never been offered a full-time role at a club or management or anything like that. If it was something that you really fancy, I suppose, but when I say ‘fancy’ I mean I would have to move from Liverpool. My kids are at school there, so I’m basically waiting for Jurgen to give me call.”
He was only messing about during conversation with mate and Sky Sports co-worker Jamie Redknapp but there is no doubt his comments revealed a couple of things.
The Liverpool legend does not see himself managing anywhere else. He is still Liverpool through and through and is settled in his home city.
Also, maybe Klopp should give him a call.
The German is still settling in at Anfield and having the advice and support of a recent Liverpool hero on his coaching staff, or even in just an advisory role, would be an endearing and slick move from the former Borussia Dortmund man.
Don't expect anything, but it would certainly be an interesting idea to pursue from Liverpool's enigmatic boss.
