It's scary: Paul Merson comments on Leeds United, predicts FA Cup tie v Watford

Paul Merson says he cannot believe how long Leeds United have been out of the Premier League, admitting he finds the length of their absence from the top flight 'scary'.

The former Arsenal and Aston Villa midfielder featured against the Whites regularly in the 90s, and was speaking to SkySports ahead of the Watford v Leeds FA Cup clash this weekend.

Merson predicts that with both sides clear from Premier League and Championship relegation but not expected to make major strides in their respective league tables - they will each be going all out to win, and backs the Leeds fans to contribute to making it a 'proper cup tie'.

He said: "Leeds can't make the play-offs in the Championship so they can have a good go at this game. You can guarantee there will be a lot of Leeds fans in Watford on Saturday.

"It's scary a club of that size has been out of the Premier League for so long."

It is a lot more scary for the Leeds United supporters who have had to witness their fruitless attempts to bounce back, and this season looks another write off, currently 16th in the league.

Merson predicts more bad luck for the Championship side, calling a 2-0 victory for the Hornets.

He said: "Getting a good draw wins you the FA Cup. Despite Leeds travelling in numbers, this is a good draw for Watford. I think Watford have got a chance of going all the way."
