Harry Redknapp explains how he would improve Christian Benteke if he was Jurgen Klopp

Christian Benteke needs to rediscover his goalscoring touch for Liverpool.

Speaking to the Standard, Harry Redknapp has explained what he would do to improve Christian Benteke, if he were in Jurgen Klopp’s place right now.

Redknapp said: “Benteke needs games and if I was Jurgen Klopp, I’d get Ian Rush in to work with him on one v ones. He misses far too many.”

Benteke has struggled for form this season with the Reds, as he looks like the wrong fit for the style of football that both Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp have tried to play with Liverpool.

They have preferred to keep the ball on the ground, but Benteke’s strengths are with his head and in the air, and the Belgian international has suffered.

He has scored just six goals in 22 Premier League games, and has looked out of sorts when the ball is at his feet. A lack of confidence appears to have come over him, and he has been reduced to a substitute role recently with the return of Daniel Sturridge to fitness, and the form of Roberto Firmino.

He needs to up his game if he is going to get back into the side, with Benteke needing to work on his technical skills, and Redknapp has suggested that he would hire Ian Rush to fix the striker’s skills.

Working on his one on one finishing is vital to improve his goal tally, and anyway Klopp can get the Belgian firing again will be well greeted by Liverpool fans.
