Fiorentina coach Paolo Sousa says Tottenham Hotspur tie should be Champions League clash

The Italian side take on Spurs at home in the Europa League this evening.

Tottenham Hotspur take on Fiorentina in the UEFA Europa League this evening in a repeat of the same tie in the competition last season.

On that occasion it was Fiorentina who came out on top but both teams have certainly improved since then.

The Italian side are currently third in Serie A and unbeaten in their last five games. Spurs meanwhile are second in the Premier League and unbeaten in their last seven.

Therefore both teams are currently on course for a place in the Champions League next season. As reported by Leggo in Italy the Fiorentina boss Paolo Sousa believes this tie should already be a match in the elite European competition:

"The game against Tottenham, for tactical and physical technical values is a Champions League game.

"I hope it will soon become one."

Pochettino tends to agree. He told the press yesterday that he was looking forward to returning to Florence next season - to play in the Champions League:

"It (Florence) is an unbelievable city, we love it. I hope we come back in the CL next year."

It is fair to say, based on the current ranking of both these teams, that this fixture would have befitted the final of this competition.

As it is however one of these two ambitious clubs will have to go packing at this round of the competition.
