Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Wojciech Szczesny's Roma performance

Szczesny Training

Wojciech Szczesny could not prevent Roma falling to Real Madrid.

Wojciech Szczesny was left flailing as Roma were soundly beaten by Real Madrid on home turf.

The La Liga side took a big step into the Champions League quarter-finals, with two goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Jese Rodriguez.

On loan Arsenal stopper Szczesny set an unwanted season record in the process, taking his goals conceded tally in the Champions League this season to 18, the most in the competition.

Many of those are by the misfortune of facing Barcelona home and away in the group stages, but despite the big stage given to him, he has spent much of the time picking the ball out the back of his net.

Some may say that is better than picking his nose on the Arsenal bench, but the loan move away has done little to progress Szczesny's career, only to confirm the doubts over his ability which arose at The Emirates.

As it stands he is likely to return to Arsenal at the end of the season and deputise for Petr Cech next year if David Ospina leaves, but the performances of the new Gunners stopper makes Szczesny's chances of breaking through very tough.

Winning back the confidence of the fan base is one challenge for the Pole, and if this reaction to his Roma display is anything to go by, he faces an uphill battle...
