The Championship high-flyers are hoping that the winger will be able to strengthen their promotion bid.
Middlesbrough are reportedly interested in bringing Swansea City winger Jefferson Montero to the Riverside Stadium on loan as they look to strengthen their push for a place in the Premier League, according to The Sun.
The Sun claims that the 26-year-old is keen to complete a deal to join Boro, as he has been told by Francesco Guidolin that he is not in his plans at the Liberty Stadium, and thus, would even be interested in moving to the club permanently in the future if a long-term switch to Aitor Karanka's side helps him hold down a place in the top flight
While Boro currently sit second in the Championship - with an opportunity to go back to the top as they have a game in hand over leaders Hull - and boast an enormous amount of depth going forward, they arguably lack pace on the wings, and often appear to be relying on their full-backs, such as Emilio Nsue and Ritchie De Laet, to run into the channels and provide the side with the width to cause opposition problems.
While the Ecuadorian has struggled to establish himself during his time with the Swans, he has shown the kind of glimpses of real quality that would suggest that he would be the perfect addition to Boro's promotion bid.
Against Chelsea on the opening day of the season, he gave Branislav Ivanovic one of the toughest afternoons the defender has had since he arrived at Stamford Bridge.
His pace, trickery and energy off the ball meant that the Blues could not settle, and if he can have a similar impact for Middlesbrough - should the two sides agree a deal - then he will surely be the final piece in the jigsaw that will ensure that Karanka's men book their place at the top table.
