Tottenham travel to Italy to take on Fiorentina this week.
To Florence tomorrow with @GrahamRoberts4 . Great city but football the only important thing. I may say, result. Confident… COYS— osvaldo ardiles (@osvaldooardiles) February 17, 2016
The very best of luck to MP and @SpursOfficial boys. Very happy to play the 2nd leg at The Lane. Made the difference last season. COYS— osvaldo ardiles (@osvaldooardiles) February 17, 2016
Of course we are a much better team right now but so is Fiorentina. Great game. COYS— osvaldo ardiles (@osvaldooardiles) February 17, 2016
The Lilywhites lost to La Viola last season over two legs, but they have made real strides forward in the months following those games.
Mauricio Pochettino has now built a squad who are competing for the Premier League title, and on their day, they are able to match the best teams they come up against.
Fiorentina themselves are better than they were at this time last season, and they currently sit third in the Serie A table, but most consider Spurs as the better side - as long as they take the game seriously.
There is a belief that they will write off the Europa League to focus on their Premier League title charge, and fielding a weakened team on Thursday will see them struggle to beat Fiorentina.
Ardiles has admitted he is confident with Tottenham’s ability to win the game, and he has also referenced the fact that Spurs are at home in the second leg of the game - which gives them a slight advantage.
They lost the tie last year after playing the first leg at White Hart Lane, but as long as they stay in the game in Florence, they will set themselves up to have a chance of progressing in the second leg this time round.
