The Tottenham Hotspur defender continues to show he is a class act.
Tottenham Hotspur are enjoying a wonderful campaign that could yet become one of the best in their history.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are currently second in the Premier League table just two points behind leaders Leicester City, while they are also in the last 32 of the Europa League and the fifth round of the FA Cup.
The Belgian international spent last season on loan at Southampton, but when it came to a permanent move to the Premier League from Atletico Madrid he headed not to St Mary’s but to White Hart Lane.
Since then Alderweireld has formed a brilliant partnership with countryman Jan Vertonghen, and while the latter is currently out injured he has continued to impress alongside Kevin Wimmer.
What could have easily gone unnoticed in Tottenham’s outstanding campaign is Alderweireld’s ability to do his job fairly, time and time again.
While many defenders rack up bookings at an alarming rate, the 26-year-old has just two yellow cards all season.
That is in 33 appearances to date, proving emphatically that he is a class act who defends comfortably and effectively without the need to revert to fouls.
So credit where it is due, for a man who has played as big a part as anyone in Tottenham’s resurgence this season.
