Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane explains what Joe Hart said to him before crucial penalty

The England team-mates had a battle of minds on Sunday.

Tottenham Hotspur defeated Manchester City in the Premier League at the weekend to rubberstamp their credentials as genuine title contenders.

It was however a game mired in controversy.

Spurs' first game came from the penalty spot, Harry Kane smashing the ball home from 12 yards after Raheem Sterling was adjudged, wrongly, to handled the ball in the area.

Prior to taking the kick Manchester City goalkeeper and Kane's England team-mate Joe Hart had a few words in the ear of his pal - clearly trying to put him off his game before stepping up to the spot.

Now Kane has revealed just what Hart said.

He told the official Tottenham Hotspur Twitter feed:

"He said 'I know you like to go to the keeper's right and I know you like to go down the middle, I think you're going to go down the middle.'

"I said 'OK' and then I put it down the middle."

Nothing wrong of course with a little bit of gamesmanship between the two and Spurs fans will just be glad that it was their man Kane who got the last laugh from this interesting clash of titans.

The pair must practice penalties from time to time on international duty. Hopefully both will find penalty success if called upon in France this summer.
