Steven Taylor says Newcastle are like a different side at home

Newcastle's wretched away form is proving costly while their home form is keeping their survival hopes alive.

Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor has said they are a different side when they play at home but need to sort out their away form, admitting it is not good enough.

The Magpies were on the end of a hiding at the weekend when they were beaten 5-1 by a rejuvenated Chelsea side at Stamford Bridge which put Newcastle back into the relegation zone on goal difference.

There has been an upturn in form at home recently with wins over West Brom and West Ham as well as a 3-3 draw in their last three home games.

Their away form, however, has been retched as they have only managed to record wins against Bournemouth and Tottenham this season.

Taylor is quoted in the Shields Gazette, saying: “Away from home it hasn’t been good enough, hasn’t been acceptable. We need to turn it round.

“There are 12 games left now, and we have to start winning games. That’s massively important now. Even draws won’t be good enough.

“We have to win. Three points are a must."

Certainly, the lack of consistency is hurting Newcastle right now but it's apparent their home form is key to their survival, and they need to keep picking up points there.

However, if they are not winning away from home then it could give something of a boost to their rivals if they continue to struggle, in the knowledge that they are games that Newcastle aren't winning.

Their home form hasn't exactly been perfect but has produced a lot more for the club than their away form and having invested heavily in the squad last month, Newcastle know they need to produce a consistent run of good form to save the club from a season in the Championship.
