It is a long-standing debate over which player was the better of the two, with both having enjoyed illustrious careers at Liverpool and Manchester United respectively.
Scholes certainly wins in the medals stakes, having won 11 Premier League titles, three FA Cups, two League Cups and two Champions League trophies in his career.
Gerrard on the other hand never managed to win the Premier League title, but did win the Champions League once, as well as two FA Cups, three League Cups and the UEFA Cup.
For Savage though, it is the former Reds star who comes out on top when asked who was the better player.
“Scholesy could do everything but Gerrard could as well,” he told the Daily Mail.
“Gerrard could run past you, though. He went on a run and you weren't catching him.
“But I'd rather play against those players. That was the buzz for me. Keane, Vieira, Petit, Scholes, Gerrard. You felt you had a point to prove.”
The debate about over Gerrard and Scholes is certainly an interesting one, and likely to continue for many years to come.
The former certainly had the better goal-scoring record, managing 120 Premier League goals compared to Scholes 107, while he was arguably the better tackler of the two as well.
Some would argue that Gerrard was also the star in arguably worse sides which makes him better, although many others would say that Scholes was crucial to United’s dominance for so long.
In any regard, it is easy to agree that both are Premier League legends in their own right.
