The defender has been impressive alongside Ryan Shawcross and Marc Muniesa.
The centre back has become a key player in the Potters first team under Mark Hughes, having formed a formidable partnership with both Ryan Shawcross and Marc Muniesa at the heart of their defence.
He believes that should earn him a recall into the Germany squad for this summer’s Euro 2016 in France.
He admits though, that he faces stern competition given the quality that his country have in the position.
"I think a call up would be justified – because I believe in myself," he told the Stoke Sentinel.
"Ultimately, however, the coach has a difficult choice. That's why I do not envy him.”
"Of course I am ready for it and of course I have faith in own ability but getting back into the Germany team is not something that concerns me every day."
One player Wollscheid may face stern competition from is Leicester City defender Robert Huth.
He replaced his compatriot at the Britannia, but Huth has since reignited his career with the Foxes, playing a key role in their exciting escape from relegation last season and title bid this year.
That sort of form is sure to have caught the eye of Germany coach Joachim Loew, who would not be wrong to pick Huth given how he has performed in the centre of Leicester’s defence over the last year.
