Robbie Savage says that Derby County should approach Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett.

Robbie Savage suggested on the BBC Radio 5 live 606 show on Saturday evening (February 13) that Derby County should make a move for Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett.

Derby sacked Paul Clement as their head coach earlier this month, and placed academy director Darren Wassall in charge of the first team for the rest of the season.

“I will put a name out there for Derby,” said the former Derby midfielder. “Darren Wassall has done great with the Derby academy, is he the right man for the job? Personally I don’t think so.

“Do you know who I would give it to? Gary Rowett. I think he has done great with Birmingham. I used to play for Derby. I would make an approach, personally, just my own opinion, go for Gary Rowett.”

Rowett has been in charge of Birmingham sine 2014 and has done a good job at St. Andrew’s Stadium so far.

The Blues, who finished 10th in the Championship last season, are in the running for a playoff spot this campaign.

In fact, Birmingham are just three points behind sixth-placed Derby in the league table at the moment.

Rowett might prove to be a good managerial appointment for the Rams, but the question is whether he would be willing to leave Birmingham either now or at the end of the season.

Birmingham will return to action on February 23 when they take on Bolton Wanderers at home in the Championship, while Derby will face Brentford away at Griffin Park this Saturday.
