Rangers fans react on Twitter to Barrie McKay’s contract extension; highlight serious worry

Rangers winger Barrie McKay has signed a new contract at Ibrox.

Rangers confirmed on Monday that Barrie McKay has signed a new contract with the Gers.

The 21-year-old winger has tied himself down at Ibrox until the summer of 2018, becoming the latest Rangers star to agree a new deal since Mark Warburton’s appointment as manager.

McKay, who was brought to Ibrox when he was released by Kilmarnock in 2011, has played 79 times for the club since making his first start in 2012 aged just 17.

This season has been an especially proficient one for McKay, as he has established himself back in the first-team under Warburton, lending his talents as an attacking force.

33 games in all competitions have brought a return of six goals and nine assists, taking his career tally to 11 goals and 24 assists.

The new deal was expected, and has been greeted with happiness from Rangers fans, although many fans also highlighted an issue with McKay’s new deal.

Whilst previous contracts handed out to players were extended to 2020, McKay has only been given a deal until 2018.

This is not the long-term deal that many hoped for, and Rangers fans highlighted this worry when reacting to the news of the contract on Twitter.
