Watford’s Suarez sought advice from former Sunderland and West Brom players.

Speaking to the Watford Observer, Mario Suarez has revealed what Marcos Alonso and Borja Valero told him about the Premier League before deciding to sign for the Hornets.

Suarez said: “Players always say good things about the Premier League. Even Marcos Alonso and Borja Valero at Fiorentina. They had bad seasons when they played in England but they still said the fans and the stadiums were amazing.”

Alonso and Borja Valero currently both play for Serie A side Fiorentina, the club which Suarez was at before he left to sign for Watford.

The Spanish midfielder made his debut against Chelsea just days after signing, playing three minutes of action, before starting the following game against Spurs. He tasted his first win as a Watford player over the weekend, with the Hornets defeating Crystal Palace 2-1, of which Suarez featured for 19 minutes.

Before deciding to head to the Premier League, Suarez sought the advice of other players to have played in England, including Alonso and Borja Valero.

Alonso spent two spells in England, once with Bolton and once with Sunderland, whilst Valero played just one full season with West Brom.

Neither player enjoyed particularly fruitful times in the Premier League, but they still recommended English football to Suarez.

Suarez’s signing is proof that Watford are seriously making strides in the Premier League, and fans are excited to see the next steps the Hornets make in the summer transfer window.
