Diafra Sakho has told West Ham United’s official site that he wants to score another 15 goals this season.
Sakho promised before the start of the campaign that he would hit 20 goals, but he is stuck on five at the moment.
The Senegalese international has missed much of the season through injury, but he is looking to make up for lost time with his return now imminent.
“Even though it's been a lot quicker than what I'd thought, I'm in a hurry to come back because I promised to score 20 goals and at the moment I'm only on five in all competitions. So that leaves 15,” Sakho said.
“I'm going to try right until the end to keep to my word. Even if the fans say, ‘the whole season he only played 20 or so games’, I hope, in the games that I'm going to play, to respect my words. That's very important to me.”
Sakho notched 12 goals in 26 appearances last season, and he has five in his first 14 games this time around.
Slaven Bilic’s men have coped well in Sakho’s absence, but his comeback will add even further quality to the London side’s attacking ranks, as they look to finish the campaign strongly.
West Ham are currently in seventh place in the Premier League table, and they also have a chance of booking their place in the FA Cup quarter finals if they can beat Blackburn Rovers at the weekend.
