The Owls brought Hooper in on a permanent deal from Norwich City in the January transfer window, and he has been in fine form over recent weeks.
The former Celtic man scored in Wednesday’s 4-0 win over Brentford last Saturday.
And Bees boss Smith said: “I had Hoops at Leyton Orient so I know how good he is anyway.
“He’s a great signing for Wednesday. He has been a regular goalscorer for them.
“I thought his movement was excellent. He has done the business north of the border and in the Premier League.”
Hooper actually took a while to get start at Hillsborough, after failing to score in his first seven matches, but he has found the groove now.
Hooper’s goal against Brentford was his 10th in his last 11 appearances for the Owls, and he seems to have become the Yorkshire side’s main striker.
The 28-year-old has added even more threat to Wednesday’s attacking ranks, and his goals will be vital as Carlos Carvalhal’s side chase promotion.
Wednesday are currently in fifth place in the Championship table, and they are only five points behind the automatic promotion spaces.
