Taking to his personal Twitter account, David Gold has admitted that he hopes Manuel Lanzini could be ready to play for West Ham this weekend, when they take on Blackburn in the FA Cup.
I'm hoping Lanzini travels to Blackburn. dg https://t.co/YcWlnGv3eq— David Gold (@davidgold) February 16, 2016
The 23-year-old playmaker was performing exceptionally well prior to suffering an injury to his hamstring at the beginning of December.
He returned at the end of that month, but managed just two more appearances before being struck down again with a thigh issue.
He has missed the last six league games, as well as all of West Ham’s three FA Cup ties, and the Hammers have lacked another creative player with Lanzini out of action.
Dimitri Payet is excellent, but he performs better when not pressured to do all the work in the final third, and Lanzini’s return could be the difference between West Ham securing European football or falling out of the top reaches of the table.
He has slowly been working his way back to fitness, and Gold has expressed his hope that Lanzini will be travelling with Slaven Bilic’s squad this weekend when they travel to Blackburn.
The Hammers travel to Ewood Park to take on Blackburn in the FA Cup, and with Lanzini present, their chances of securing passage to the next round will slightly improve.
