Steve McClaren drops hint about change he'll make in Newcastle United's upcoming matches

Newcastle United have been hammered in their last two Premier League away matches.

Steve McClaren has suggested in the Chronicle that he may try to change Newcastle United’s style of play.

The Magpies have been hammered in their last two away matches against Everton and Chelsea.

And McClaren has suggested that he may look to change the Mapgies’ system, as he searches for the winning formula.

“We need to start collecting points away from home because winning at home but the losing away is not going to be good enough,” McClaren said.

“We have to find a way to win away from home because, at the moment, that’s not happening.

“If that’s a different approach, or different personnel, then we’ll have to do that.

“It might mean a different way of playing.”

Newcastle were beaten 5-1 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in their most recent outing, and they never threatened during the match.

The Blues were 3-0 up within the first 20 minutes, and a last minute Andros Townsend consolation was all Newcastle supporters had to celebrate.

Newcastle’s poor away form is threatening to undo the good work that they are putting in at home.

The Magpies are unbeaten at St. James’ Park in 2016, but they remain locked in a relegation battle, with the Tynesiders currently occupying 18th place in the Premier League table.

Newcastle’s next match comes against Stoke City on March 2nd.
