Steve Evans offers his opinion on Aitor Karanka

Leeds United will face Middlesbrough at Elland Road in the Championship on Monday evening.

Leeds United head coach Steve Evans has suggested to The Yorkshire Evening Post that he rates Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka highly.

Evans will come up against Karanka this evening when Leeds take on Middlesbrough at Elland Road in the Championship.

“I’ve the utmost respect for him,” the former Rotherham United manager told The Yorkshire Evening Post about the Spaniard. “If his team are the benchmark for the division then he’d be the benchmark for the managers in it. But at the same time, he hasn’t won a promotion yet.”

Karanka has been in charge of Middlesbrough since November 2013 and has done a brilliant job at the Riverside Stadium.

The former Real Madrid defender guided Boro to the Championship playoff final last season.

Things are going well for Middlesbrough this campaign, with the team one of the top candidates to gain automatic promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season.

Boro are second in the Championship table at the moment with 57 points from 29 matches. Karanka's side are just two points behind leaders Hull City, but a win at Elland Road tonight will see them go top.

Meanwhile, Leeds currently find themselves 16th in the Championship table with 36 points from 30 matches.
