The midfielder scored his first goal for the club in the win over Bournemouth.
The French midfielder was brought to the Potteries in the January transfer window, with manager Mark Hughes paying big money to secure him from Portuguese giants Porto.
He made a subdued start to life in England in the 3-0 loss to Everton last week, but made a better impression in this weekend’s win over Bournemouth with an excellently hit volley to open the scoring for his side.
And Shaqiri has been impressed by his club’s new signing, likening him to Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira.
“I think you can compare him to Patrick Vieira – only Giannelli is all left foot!" the Daily Mail reports him saying.
“You can see Giannelli is a young guy, he has a lot to learn but he is a top player. You can see that when he is on the ball.”
“He is quiet but he knows where to play the ball. He has an unbelievably good technique and plays that key pass between the lines.”
Mark Hughes will certainly be hoping that Imbula can replicate the type of performances that Vieira used to put in during his heyday years with the Gunners.
The Potters could do with some bit being added to their midfield, with the loss of Steven N’Zonzi last summer having hit them harder than they might have expected.
While Hughes has wanted his side to be a more stylish side than the brute force they used to be during Tony Pulis’ reign, those flair players still need a strong defensive basis to work from, and he be hopeful that Imbula is the answer to that.
