Sam Allardyce has told the Shields Gazette that Sunderland’s four January signings have been ‘absolutely outstanding’ so far.
Sunderland brought in Lamine Kone, Wahbi Khazri, Dame N’Doye and Jan Kirchhoff during the January transfer window, as Allardyce tried to improve the quality of his squad.
And the quartet have already proved their value to the Black Cats, with the North East side’s performances improving drastically since their arrivals.
“We’d already got N’Doye on loan, so four players in January is quite an achievement, and the four players have been absolutely outstanding,” he said.
“It’s made all of us look like a better side, and the rest of the players are playing better as well because these players have made a contribution to that.
All four of the new recruits started for Sunderland against Manchester United at the weekend, and helped the side pick up a 2-1 victory.
Sunderland got the three points through goals from Khazri and Kone, with the pair helping to pay back some of the fees expended to bring them to Wearside.
The win was the Black Cats’ first against the Red Devils at the Stadium of Light, and it has increased their survival chances considerably.
Sunderland are now just one point away from safety, with their next match coming against West Ham United.
