Paul Merson says West Bromwich Albion lack pace

West Bromwich Albion are currently eight points clear of the Premier League drop zone.

Paul Merson has told Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, which was broadcast on 13 February, that West Bromwich Albion lack pace.

The Baggies have struggled going forward this season, with their front men often looking isolated.

And Merson believes that part of the reason for this is due to West Brom’s lack of pace in attacking areas.

“They haven’t got enough pace in their team,” the former Arsenal midfielder said.

“You look at Leicester’s team, they have pace in their team, and they break forward. West Brom don’t do that.”

There have been concerns that West Brom could be sucked into a relegation battle, but Merson does not feel that manager Tony Pulis will allow them to fall into trouble.

“I would be shocked if they went down and I’m only saying that because they have got Tony Pulis,” Merson added.

West Brom’s lack of pace did not hurt them in their most recent outing, as they were able to beat Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park.

The Baggies were forced to defend for much of the match, with Everton having 34 shots, but they fended off Roberto Martinez’s side’s threat to claim a vital victory.

West Brom are now eight points clear of the relegation zone, and they have an FA Cup fifth round match against Reading next on their schedule.
