Villa suffered a 6-0 defeat to Liverpool at Villa Park in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
It was arguably the worst performance from a top-flight team at home this season, and Winterburn was scathing in his analysis of Remi Garde’s side.
“I cannot mark Aston Villa, it is impossible,” the former England international told Sky Sports. “What is the lowest mark I can give? I could go to the bottom of the alphabet.
“It is shocking and, unfortunately, it's not just one performance - it's happening quite a bit. You look for energy, desire, organisation and players taking responsibility in a team that's struggling. Villa clearly haven't got any of that.”
Villa are at the foot of the Premier League table at the moment with just 16 points from 26 matches.
Remi Garde’s side are as many as eight points behind 17th-placed Norwich City and look doomed for relegation to the Championship at the end of the season.
Against Liverpool, the Villans were truly woeful, and fans will be hugely disappointed with the way the players collapsed.
Over the course of the 90 minutes, Villa had just 39% of the possession, took six shots of which just one was on target, and failed to earn a single corner.
