The Tottenham Hotspur centre-back excelled against Manchester City at the weekend.
Summer signing Kevin Wimmer had to wait patiently for his chance at White Hart Lane, with Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen forming a seemingly unbreakable partnership at the heart of Tottenham’s defence.
However, an injury to the latter saw Wimmer get his chance and he has slotted in seamlessly; his performance against City a case in point.
Writing on Twitter, Roberts said, “The defence (was) top, top class today; well done lads. Kevin looked like (he had) been there years; very proud.”
And a quick look at Wimmer’s stats from Sunday proves what a solid game he had.
|Passing Accuracy||Outfield Blocks||Duels Won||Aerials Won||Interceptions Won||Effective Clearances||Effective Headed Clearances||Ball Recovery||Mins Played|
The Austrian international had a very impressive 94 per cent passing accuracy, showing just how composed he was despite playing away from home at one of the toughest grounds in the Premier League.
The Tottenham defender also made nine effective clearances (six with his feet and three with his head) while he recovered the ball on five separate occasions.
With three interceptions, one outfield block and a solid performance throughout, it is no wonder Pochettino was so keen to bring Wimmer to the club last summer.
