Former Manchester United and Everton manager David Moyes said on the Goals on Sunday show on Sky Sports 1 on Sunday morning (February 14) that Newcastle United will not get relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.
Moyes believes that the Newcastle fans will have to give their full support to the team at St. James’ Park in order to avoid the drop to the Championship.
“At the start of the season, I would have said Newcastle might just finish outside the bottom three, and I still think that Newcastle might just do it,” said the Scotsman. “I think they have signed some really good players.
“I think they have got a great club, fantastic support. They might need the home support at St. James’ Park to help get them wins at home because if they’re going to play as open as they did at times and defend the way they did then they are going to make it hard for themselves.”
Newcastle are third from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with 24 points from 26 matches. The Magpies are in real danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
Home form will be key. If the 50,000 Newcastle fans get behind the team, then Steve McClaren’s side will have a good chance of staying up.
There are some good players in the current Newcastle squad, and they need to step up their game. With players such as Georginio Wijnaldum, Moussa Sissoko, Jonjo Shelvey and Ayoze Perez in the team, fans should remain optimistic of survival.
