Aston Villa defender claimed 'his phone was in his pocket'.

Aston Villa defender Joleon Lescott caused controversy on social media after posting a message on Twitter after his side's defeat to Liverpool.

The former England defender posted a picture of an expensive car, just shortly after his side were hammered 6-0 by Liverpool.

Predictably the centre-back took plenty of flak, but a couple of hours on, he has issued a response and attempted to explain his actions.

Yes, he claims it was accidental...

Lescott claimed his phone accidentally sent the message after he leaned on it in his pocket.

It is unfortunate if this is what happened, but the damage to his reputation is done, with fans previously believing the defender was arrogantly showing off that he was rich and not bothered by the loss.

Villa are on the verge of relegation, and their 6-0 loss does not offer much hope that they will be able to pull off a miracle escape.
