Aston Villa player ratings v Liverpool: A disaster all round

Liverpool netted four goals in a 13-minute period during the second half as Remi Garde's men were thrashed 6-0 at Villa Park.

Mark Bunn 5/10 – A poor mistake to concede James Milner’s first-half free-kick but was otherwise hung out to dry by Villa’s hapless defence. Brad Guzan likely wouldn’t have done any better.

Micah Richards 3.5/10 – Gave away the ball for Liverpool’s third and was positionally all over the place. Hard to believe he was once hailed as one of England’s most promising talents.

Jores Okore 3/10 – Looked more like a League One defender than a Champions League one. Good luck getting that move to a “bigger club” with performances like that.

Joleon Lescott 4/10 – Allowed Daniel Sturridge to saunter between him and Cissokho for the 16th-minute opener and failed to recover from then on.

Aly Cissokho 4/10 – Showed exactly why Liverpool opted not to sign him permanently after his previous loan spell at Anfield.

Ashley Westwood 4/10 – Overun and outmuscled in midfield. At least the Championship might be more his level.

Idrissa Gana 5/10 – Typically full of running but incredibly sloppy in possession yet again.

Leandro Bacuna 3.5/10 – Replaced by 20-year-old Jordan Lyden midway through the second half after a dismal showing on the wing.

Jordan Veretout 4/10 – Faded more and more as the onslaught worsened.

Carles Gil 4.5/10 – Started well but was rendered a virtual passenger once Liverpool’s second went in. The talent is there but there are times when he just doesn’t look cut out for the demands of the Premier League.

Gabby Agbonlahor 5/10 – Came off injured for Sinclair just before the hour. Had done nothing before that but it’s not as if he was given much service either.

Scott Sinclair (Agbonlahor 58) 6/10 – Had a couple of bright moments but did nothing to suggest that he should be in the starting XI. A damning indictment of Villa’s squad depth.

Jordan Lyden (Bacuna 66) 6/10 – Should be given a run in the side over the rest of the season given that relegation now looks all but inevitable.

Alan Hutton (Richards 84) N/A – You know things are bad when Alan Hutton has to be brought on at 6-0 down.
