Writing in his weekly column, Savage stated his belief that the Premier League title is there for the taking for Arsenal and a failure to clinch it this season could prompt another long wait for such a great opportunity.
“Arsene Wenger will run out of excuses, and have nowhere to hide, if Arsenal bottle another title challenge. What valid excuses can Wenger possibly offer if the Gunners come up short again?” Savage questioned.
“He’s had £200m in the bank, he has nicked Petr Cech off Chelsea for buttons and, more than once, Arsenal have been sitting pretty at the top this season.
“If they blow it again, you wonder if Wenger will ever win another league title.”
Arsenal entered 2016 topping the Premier League table despite suffering with injuries.
With players coming back in contention, you would assume the North London club would push on at the top yet a recent four-game winless run saw them drop down as far as fourth.
Now, with Leicester arriving at the Emirates on Sunday holding a five-point buffer over their rivals, a defeat for Wenger’s men would leave them eight points adrift and losing sight.
For a team of Arsenal’s capabilities, that would represent a huge failure and questions will be rightfully asked of Wenger and his ability to end the club’s 12-year wait for a league title.
With Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United likely to improve next season, Arsenal may not have a better chance to win the league than this year.
