Paul Merson predicts Tottenham’s biggest problem, makes bold Mauricio Pochettino claim

Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly interested in the Tottenham Hotspur head coach.

Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson has suggested in The Daily Star that Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino could end up at Real Madrid next season.

Pochettino was appointed the Tottenham Hotspur head coach in the summer of 2014 and has a contract until June 2019.

The Argentine has done a great job at Spurs so far, and his work at White Hart Lane has reportedly attracted interest from bigger clubs in the Premier League.

According to The London Evening Standard, both Chelsea and Manchester United have long-term interest in Pochettino.

Former Arsenal attacker Merson is a fan of the former Southampton manager, and has said that he would not be surprised if he is appointed the Madrid boss in the summer.

“I have to say though, Mauricio Pochettino has been absolutely phenomenal for Spurs,” the former England international wrote in The Daily Star. “He is one of the best managers around.

“He gives young players a chance and he makes them better. Dele Alli, Eric Dier and even Harry Kane have taken huge steps under him.

“Tottenham’s biggest problem will be keeping hold of him because bigger clubs will be looking at him in the summer.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if he’s manager at Real Madrid next season. I don’t see too many kids coming through at Real Madrid at the moment, and that has got to be a factor in their thinking when they appoint their next manager.”

Many Premier League observers will back the idea that Pochettino will eventually leave Tottenham for a bigger club, but Merson’s claim that he could end up at Madrid next season is quite bold and unrealistic.

Madrid are the biggest club in the world, and despite Pochettino’s success at Spurs, it is too early for him to move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
