Dimitri Payet recently committed his long-term future to West Ham United.

West Ham United vice-chairman Karren Brady has revealed in her football diary in The Sun how an approach for Dimitri Payet was made this week.

Brady has revealed that an agent claiming to be a representative of a Chinese club made an approach to check the availability of Payet.

“A text from an agent purporting to represent a Chinese club offers West Ham £37million for Dimitri Payet,” the 46-year-old wrote in her football diary in The Sun (Wednesday, February 11 entry). “Who can take such a text seriously?

“This despite the fact that approaches from China for top players are swiftly becoming strong competition for European clubs which have always been able to outbid the rest. Regardless, we have no inclination to sell our French star and certainly not by text.”

Payet signed a new long-term contract with West Ham this week which will keep him at the Boleyn Ground until the summer of 2021.

The attacking midfielder joined the Hammers from French club Marseille in the summer of 2015 and has been truly superb so far this campaign.

The Frenchman has scored six goals and created 64 chances in 18 Premier League appearances for the Hammers.

Payet has a pass accuracy of 82% and a shot accuracy of 70%, and has won one header, 45 headers and 12 tackles.

West Ham are sixth in the Premier League table at the moment with 39 points from 25 matches, eight points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.
