Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Ozil contract speculation, Barcelona move rumoured

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has reportedly snubbed a new contract with the club.

According to a report from Spanish newspaper Marca, Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has snubbed a new contract with the club, and could move on to Barcelona.

The German World Cup winner, 27, joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013, and whilst he's had his critics during his time in the Premier League, few can argue with his record this term.

With four goals and a whopping 16 assists for the Gunners this season, Ozil has been one of Arsene Wenger's top performers, and has been given plaudits throughout the campaign.

However, there has been some concern today, after Spanish newspaper Marca claimed that Ozil has rejected Arsenal's offer of a new contract to stay at the Emirates Stadium.

Ozil still has two-and-a-half years left on his contract, but Arsenal allegedly wanted to get him tied down beyond his 2018 expiration - and it's suggested that Ozil could make a move back to La Liga, with Real Madrid's fierce rivals Barcelona.

Since the report came out, Arsenal fans have been reacting on Twitter, with many even suggesting that they wouldn't blame Ozil for leaving due to the club's faltering title challenge, after manager Wenger only signed midfielder Mohamed Elneny in January rather than adding top quality players.

Others compared the possibility of losing Ozil to previous departures of Samir Nasri and Robin van Persie, and ultimately believe that keeping Alexis Sanchez is more important.
